Specialist environmental contractor, McAuliffe Civil Engineering of Wolverhampton recently added five new Volvo FMX 8×4 rigid trucks to its fleet, all with Extra-High B Ride chassis and Volvo Powertronic fully-automatic transmission systems.
Supplied by Jamie Stanley, Sales Executive at Hartshorne Motor Services, the five day cab trucks are all powered by 420hp D13K engines. A fully-automatic power-shift gearbox with both a torque converter and oil cooler, Powertronic is factory-fitted with a power take-off (PTO), an integrated retarder and an emergency power steering pump.
The group, which also feature Abba Predator tipper bodies and onboard weighing systems, along with Hyva hydraulics, will operate within a 50 to 60 mile radius of its Bilston base. Steve McAuliffe, Director at McAuliffe Civil Engineering said: “Volvo’s Powertronic is the only transmission system that will bring a fully-loaded rigid truck up very steep hills in quarries without requiring tow assistance.
“We were the first UK tipper operator to adopt Volvo’s I-Shift automated gearbox over 15 years ago. In our operating environment, Powertronic is unequalled for off-road hill climbing. We have our own workshops, but always utilise a two-year Volvo Service Contract with new purchases, which is carried out at Hartshorne’s Walsall dealerpoint.”
