Weightlifter and PPG under new ownership

Tipper body and tipping trailer manufacturing businesses Weightlifter Bodies and PPG Fabrications have been acquired by Grange Cross for an undisclosed sum.

Nigel Butler (pictured), Grange Cross shareholder and formerly Commercial Director at Renault Trucks UK, takes over as Managing Director from Paul Weightman who is to retire after 27 years leading the group. The firm, founded in the 1930s and based in Scunthorpe and Wisbech, designs and manufactures lightweight, durable and reliable tipping bodies and tipping trailers for the construction, agriculture and recycling markets.

Weighlifter also has on-site repair and parts supply operations. Butler said: “I am thrilled to be joining the Weightlifter and PPG teams. Paul Weightman, with his directors, has done a fantastic job to consistently be a leading and well-respected supplier of truck tipping products.

“The construction, agriculture and recycling markets are dynamic and growing, bringing lots of opportunites to develop Weightlifter and PPG. With these directors, I look forward to providing a secure future to our 87 staff at our two manufacturing sites by continuing to develop innovative solutions for our customers that add real value to their operations.”

Paul Weightman added: “I am very pleased to be able to secure the future for the business, the staff and customers. Through innovation and build quality, we have been leaders in tipping trailers and bodies for many decades. I am certain that under Nigel, the business will continue to grow and develop, maintaining its market leading position.”
