WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST EVER JOB?
Working behind a bar back home in Ireland.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE COMMERCIAL VEHICLE BUSINESS?
Through family members. I began my career in a technical role and have developed through the industry from that point.
WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL?
There are many elements to my role and every day is different. Essentially, I oversee the entirety of our sales function here at Rygor, encompassing both the truck and van sales teams. On a day to day basis, I work closely with our sales team members on vehicle orders and fleet sales. For the Rygor team and I, it is about offering our customers the highest levels of service. It is important that we take the time to get to know our customers, understand what they do and how we can help them drive their business forward with the right vehicle for them and their company. It’s been a really great few months in terms of recognition for our team at Rygor. In February we were awarded ‘Sales Team of the Year’ at the AM Awards in Birmingham, then our marketing team was recognised at the Mercedes-Benz Truck Masters award ceremony. Most recently, our Business Manager Andrew Lee who runs our Finance & Insurance team was awarded ‘Business Manager of the Year’ at this year’s Motor Trader awards. I’m exceptionally proud of our entire team here at Rygor and it is great to see them being recognised in the network and across the industry.
HOW WILL YOUR JOB/BUSINESS CHANGE OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS?
Electrification will be one of the biggest changes and developments over the next few years, as will alternative fuels. We are looking forward to seeing the eVito come into the UK this year, followed by the eSprinter and eCitan over the next couple of years. It is definitely an exciting time for the industry, but no doubt these changes will mean some initial adjustments for both sales and aftersales care departments.
WHAT OTHER JOBS HAVE YOU DONE?
I have been an HGV mechanic, a technical serviceman and I also worked in a dealer development role. This range of jobs across the sector has provided me with a good knowledge base and grounding for my current position.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG PEOPLE JOINING THE INDUSTRY?
It is a fantastic industry to be part of, with lots of great career opportunities available, including apprenticeships. I would encourage new starters to the industry to work hard, learn from those around them and be enthusiastic. This will no doubt lead to your success!
HOW DO YOU RELAX?
In my spare time I like to go to the gym and also spend time with my wife, Sarah.
FAVOURITE HOLIDAY DESTINATION?
