MAN Truck & Bus plans to pump £20m into its UK dealer network over the next five years with improvements, expansions, re-openings and new greenfield developments. As part of the process, the manufacturer has been investing heavily in its network in recent months as it looks to grow its market share in the UK and further enhance customer experience.

Last May its Nuneaton site reopened following a £250,000 investment in a new reception area, upgraded frontage and landscaping. Improvements at the site on the Bermuda Park Industrial Estate include a new booking-in and waiting area for drivers, a dedicated sales desk and parts counter, and a reconfigured entrance with a dedicated forecourt for TGE vans.

The site, which opened in 2000, covers large areas of Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. According to the manufacturer Nuneaton is a key location in its network – not only is it in close proximity to some of the Midlands’ biggest towns and cities, but it is situated in an area with a high concentration of commercial vehicles. The workshop is open day and night Tuesday to Friday and is close to the M6, M1, M69, M42, M40 the A5 and the A1.

Adrian Kerby, General Manager, said: “At MAN Nuneaton we have always provided a high level of service, from new and used vehicle sales, to genuine parts, servicing and maintenance. “This investment is a clear example of the Nuneaton site growing to meet the needs of our expanding customer base.”

MAN also re-opened its site in Broxburn at the end of last year following a £200,000 investment. The purpose built facility, which originally opened its doors in 2001, is located on the East Mains Industrial Estate, four miles to the west of Edinburgh’s Airport and covers the areas of West Lothian, the Borders, Berwick-upon-Tweed, East Lothian and the city of Edinburgh.

Visitors now enter a new reception area which has a comfortable booking in and waiting area for drivers and a dedicated sales office and parts counter. Matt Squires, Aftersales Director, MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd, said: “We are extremely excited and very proud of the improvements at our established Broxburn facility. This investment visually demonstrates our commitment to provide our valued customers with a modern and customer centric approach, which in turn is supported by the highest levels of service and support.

“This is just one of many exciting and significant investments we have committed to over the next five years.  MAN Broxburn is an important location in our network; not only is it in close proximity to Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, but it is situated in an area with a high concentration of commercial vehicles.”

MAN Broxburn is equipped to deliver a one-stop service to its customers, including new and used vehicle sales, servicing and repair and maintenance. The workshop is open day and night Monday to Friday, and on Saturday between 8am and 1pm. Greig Baynham, Broxburn General Manager, said:  “The Broxburn branch is perfectly located to meet the needs of both local business throughout the Midlothians, while at the same time, provide a fast and efficient service to vehicles traveling along the M8, M9 and M90 motorways and at the same time, the local A and B roads.”

Meanwhile, construction work is currently underway on a 3.3 acre site in Team Valley, Gateshead which will host a new, from the ground up, dealership and maintenance facility which will provide support for MAN’s complete range. The building’s metal frame – which uses steel from across the north of England – is already in place. The main beams for the structure were sourced locally, while sections were fabricated by Durham-based WRAM Fabrications.

Mitch Barnes, Network Business Development Manager, MAN Truck & Bus UK, said: “MAN Truck & Bus UK have operated a dealership in Gateshead for nearly a quarter of a century, since 1996, and throughout this time we’ve both sold vehicles to and supported our customers from our existing facility in Earlsway. However, as our business footprint has grown across both the Tyne Valley and the surrounding area so has our requirement for a larger site.

“This investment shows our long term commitment to the North East and to our strong customer base in the area. The new facility will allow us to grow further across the area and we’re excited to have this opportunity.” MAN, being committed to its Gateshead location, approached UK Land Estates – the largest commercial property investment and development Company in the North East – with its specific needs for the new facility.

Thanks to the large portfolio of development land held by UK Land Estates it was able to quickly make a plot available. Barnes added: “UK Land Estates helped us find this ideal location, which is well connected to major road links across the North and will serve our business well into the future.” The maintenance workshop will operate six days a week.

All the dealerships are designed to sell, support and maintain the full MAN vehicle range – from the TGE starting at 3.0 tonnes to the 250 tonne TGX heavy haulage tractor and both bus and coach products. Vehicle emergency breakdown coverage is provided through MAN’s 24/7, 365 day a year breakdown service, Mobile24. This includes new and used vehicles for sale. The dealerships all carry out MOT preparation, parts brake testing, tachograph and speed limiter calibration, electronic diagnostics, engine and gearbox repairs, and a comprehensive range of body servicing and repairs, supported by a range of MAN genuine parts.
