In our regular look at the Boss’s credentials, we cast our beady eye over the CV of Dawn Smith, Business Development Manager for Rygor Commercials…
NAME: Dawn Smith
COMPANY: Rygor Commercials
JOB: Business Development Manager
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST EVER JOB?
My first job as a teenager was working in the local shop and then at the age of 16 I started working at Midland Bank (now HSBC).
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE COMMERCIAL VEHICLE BUSINESS?
I had come out of working in the fitness industry and wanted an exciting change, and the Commercial Vehicle industry really offered me this. I love the industry and have never looked back.
WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL?
My job is really varied. I spend most of my time working with Fleet Managers and assisting them with ‘Total Cost of Ownership’, which covers areas such as funding options, repair and maintenance packages, and giving them all the options to allow them to choose the best vehicle solution for their business. I am frequently spending time travelling to meetings, holding ride and
drive days, and looking for new business opportunities.
HOW WILL YOUR JOB CHANGE OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS?
Clearly there will be many changes to technology, alternative fuels and electric. There will be a big increase in the number of vehicles required as this sector is growing and I think the future of
commercial vehicles looks really exciting. Essentially the job will demand a greater understanding of how vehicle choice affects the bottom line, understanding the budget changes when they occur
and how this effects a business.
WHAT OTHER JOBS HAVE YOU DONE?
I have worked in banking and finance, I have run a small chain of Health Clubs, and then I worked in the motor industry.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG PEOPLE JOINING THE INDUSTRY?
Work hard and the industry can be very rewarding.
HOW DO YOU RELAX?
I compete in triathlons and this helps me to de-stress and relax – to move and exert the body means that I am able to relax and sleep really well. A gin and tonic helps too!
Latin and Cuban
FAVOURITE HOLIDAY DESTINATION?
Majorca – the scenery and climbs are amazing.
FIRST CAR AND COST?
A Vauxhall Chevette costing £400.
Mercedes SLC AMG
