Some of the best professionals in Volvo Trucks’ service network in the UK & Ireland met in Gothenburg, Sweden on 7th April 2016 for the regional semi-finals of VISTA – the number one competition for workshop employees. After some stiff competition from the ten teams involved, ‘I Tools’ from the Norwich dealership of Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia emerged as the eventual winners.

The ‘I Tools’ team, led by Richard Clayton with team members, Lee Williams, Simon Nicholls and Stephen Huish, will now go on to represent the UK & Ireland at the World Final – also in Gothenburg – in late May 2016.

Richard Clayton, captain of the victorious ‘I Tools’ team also won the ‘Best Team Leader’ Trophy.

In total, over 18,500 participants have taken part in VISTA 2015-2016, which broke its own record for the biggest competition in the world for workshop professionals.

Karen Bailey, Head of Competence Development at Volvo Group UK & Ireland, said, “It has been a fantastic event. We do not get to credit and celebrate our dealer-based staff often enough and to see the cream of our technical, parts and customer service colleagues compete in this way has been a real honour. We know ‘I Tools’ will be exceptional representatives for the UK and Ireland in the World Final.”

“VISTA is a great way of seeing how our services compare with other markets, and having 10 teams reach the semi-final really shows the high level of competence in our workshops,” says Arne Knaben, Managing Director of the Volvo Group UK & Ireland.”

New lift ideal for vans and specialist vehicles

vehicle liftOperators of van, car, light commercial and specialist vehicle workshops now have a flexible and cost-effective alternative to a traditional inspection pit thanks to the UK’s leading provider of heavy-duty vehicle lifts.

The new two-post column lift from Halesowen-based TOTALKARE is part of a significant expansion of the firm’s product portfolio.

The new lift has a 5,000kg capacity and comes equipped with four, extra-long three-stage arms, ideal for lifting long wheelbase vans. As a result it provides customers who work primarily on smaller vehicles with a reliable lifting solution that has all the benefits of larger systems primarily designed for heavier vehicles such as tractor units and buses.

James Radford, TOTALKARE Sales Director, explained: “We’re constantly reviewing our product range to ensure we deliver comprehensive solutions for workshop operators across a wide range of sectors.

“We’ve also launched a new light four-post model and together these new lifts represent a significant expansion of our product portfolio. This now provides customers who work primarily on smaller vehicles with a cost-effective and reliable lifting solution.”

Expansion plans at Britcom

Britcom have been granted planning permission to construct a new workshop building at their Market Weighton site.

This comes after Britcom has seen an increase in business for their bodyshop and vehicle engineering departments.

The new building will include four further engineering bays with overhead cranes, and a second commercial paint shop and preparation area, and Britcom hope that the new building will be fully operation by the end of 2016.
